From inter-war flats near the beach to renovated family homes up the hill, Coogee switchboards range widely. Renovations bringing air conditioning or induction cooking are a common reason to upgrade.
Switchboard Upgrade Coogee: what we typically find
Coogee renovations often add the loads that push an old board over the edge: ducted or split-system air conditioning, an induction cooktop, a second bathroom or a home office. If you're planning a renovation, upgrading the board at the same time means the new work is properly protected from day one.
Near the beach, we also check for corrosion in the meter box and on the board itself. Salt air gets into everything over time.
How the job works in Coogee
On the day, we turn the power off, remove the old board, fit the new enclosure, reconnect and test every circuit, then restore power. You get a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work at the end.
If your home is part of a strata scheme, such as a beachside apartment block, we'll let you know beforehand if anything outside your unit, such as the meter room, needs to be accessed.
In older Coogee semis, the meter box is often mounted on the front verandah wall. Where it's corroded or damaged, we'll recommend repairs alongside the board upgrade.

- Breakers trip when the kettle, heater and air conditioner run together

- You are adding air conditioning, an induction cooktop or an EV charger
- A real estate agent, insurer or building inspector has flagged it
About Coogee
Inter-war flats close to Coogee Beach and Arden Street share many of Bondi's problems: dated wiring, small switchboards and corroded outdoor fittings. Further up the hill towards Randwick and South Coogee, the homes are larger, and renovations bring in jobs like new kitchen circuits, LED lighting plans, ceiling fans and EV chargers.

Switchboard Upgrades in Coogee: FAQs
Should I upgrade my switchboard before installing air conditioning?
If your board has fuses or no spare capacity, yes. We'll check it as part of quoting.
How long does a switchboard upgrade take?
It depends on the size of the board and the number of circuits. We tell you how long the job will take, and when the power will be off, before we start.
Do I need strata approval to upgrade the switchboard in my unit?
If the board is inside your lot, usually not. If it sits in a common meter room or the work affects common property, check with your strata manager. We can provide the details they need.
