Off-street parking is limited in Bondi, so most EV chargers we install here are in apartment car parks, which needs strata approval, or in garages of semi-detached homes.
EV Charger Installation Bondi: what we typically find
Most of Bondi's walk-up flats have no off-street parking, so a home EV charger usually isn't possible. Where a building has a garage or car park, the charger generally needs owners corporation approval, and the supply needs to come from your own meter or a sub-metered building supply.
In semis and cottages with a driveway or garage, a single-phase 7 kW charger on a dedicated circuit is usually straightforward, once we've checked the switchboard.
How the job works in Bondi
For houses with a driveway, installation usually takes half a day to a day. For apartments, the timeline depends on strata approval, and the technical work starts with an assessment of the building's supply.
In Bondi's older blocks, car spaces are often in a shared garage under the building, with power coming from a common board. That means the supply for your charger may need to come from your own unit board or a separate meter, and we'll set out the options for your strata committee.
Have this ready when you call
- Your charger model, if you have one
- Whether you have a garage or car space
- Strata contact details for apartments
Before we install
Every installation starts with a check of your switchboard and supply. Many older Eastern Suburbs homes have small switchboards that were never designed for an EV charger. Sometimes a switchboard upgrade is needed first, and if so we will tell you upfront.
- Single-phase home chargers, typically up to 7 kW
- Three-phase chargers where your property has three-phase supply
- A dedicated circuit with the correct protection
- Load management, so the charger doesn't overload your supply
- Notification to the network, where required
About Bondi
Bondi's housing is mostly red-brick inter-war walk-up flats, with semi-detached houses and newer apartment buildings in between. In the older blocks, the wiring often dates from the original build, apart from a few added circuits, so tripping safety switches and overloaded circuits come up a lot.

EV Chargers in Bondi: FAQs
My Bondi building has a car park. Where would the charger's power come from?
Either a long cable from your unit's meter, or a building supply with a sub-meter. We'll assess both options.
Will my switchboard handle an EV charger?
It depends on your board and your supply. We check this before quoting, and older ceramic fuse boards usually need an upgrade first.
Can I install an EV charger in my apartment building's car park?
Usually, yes, with owners corporation approval. We can prepare the details your strata committee needs.
